Saint-Quentin parts ways with Éric Bartecheky, just one month after his arrival

Saint-Quentin Basketball is experiencing a new shake-up. Just over a month after his arrival on November 27th, the club officially announced this Friday the end of its collaboration with Éric Bartecheky. A quick decision, as SQBB sinks in the standings and must deal with a delicate financial situation.
A brief stint on the SQBB bench
Brought in to try to give new momentum to a struggling team, Éric Bartecheky only coached Saint-Quentin Basketball for just over a month. In early January, the record is poor: 2 wins for 12 losses, 15th place out of 16, meaning a relegation playoff position.
According to our information, behind the scenes, part of the locker room was calling for the return of Pedro Nuno Monteiro. The former assistant had already served as interim coach with a success against Cholet following Philippe Da Silva’s dismissal, restoring competitiveness to the team. He had moved away from the club for the end of 2025, and was scheduled to return to his position when training resumed. It will now be as head coach.
A sporting and financial context under very high tension
This new separation comes in a generally complicated climate for the club from Picardy. Saint-Quentin Basketball must still manage the contractual situation of former coach Philippe Da Silva, on sick leave, with the payment of approximately 20% of his salary to cover.
On the sporting front, the departure of Jordan Caroline (6’7″, 29 years old), made official this Friday, further increases the urgency. SQBB must quickly recruit to reach the regulatory threshold of ten qualified professional players. Each day spent below this roster size exposes the club to a financial penalty, an additional burden for an already weakened organization.
A very brief statement from the club
In its official statement, Saint-Quentin Basketball remained concise:
« SQBB and Éric Bartecheky have decided, by mutual agreement, to end their collaboration. The Club thanks Éric for his commitment and wishes him good luck for the rest of his career. Éric thanks SQBB for welcoming him and encourages the team for the rest of the season. »
At the dawn of 2026, SQBB once again finds itself facing urgency, between crucial sporting choices and economic constraints, with staying in Betclic ELITE more than ever at stake.
