Real Madrid continues to make the Movistar Arena an impregnable fortress, now accumulating 12 consecutive victories in the EuroLeague. The Spanish giants overcame the absence of their fans in what was deemed a high-risk match, achieving an undeniable and doubly valuable victory against Hapoel Tel Aviv, a direct rival for playoff positioning.

The victory carries significant implications for Madrid’s EuroLeague campaign. First, they move up to third place, closing the gap on Fenerbahce and Olympiacos, who both lost this round. Second, in a hypothetical tie between Madrid and Hapoel, Scariolo’s team would come out ahead thanks to this head-to-head advantage.

Balanced offensive attack leads Madrid’s dominance

A great defensive performance by the team saw five players reach double-digit scoring, led by Hezonja with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and a 23 rating, alongside Maledon who contributed 13 points and a 19 rating. Campazzo set the pace right from the opening tip-off, scoring 10 consecutive points without a miss, giving Madrid offensive momentum that saw them dominate clearly during the first five minutes with a 15-10 lead.

Madrid found their balance in the second quarter, improving defensively and turning the tide on rebounding with great work from Tavares and Hezonja, who grabbed 6 rebounds. After a brief exchange of baskets between Deck and Motley, Madrid began to control the game’s pace. They moved the ball well on offense and found various contributors to score through Maledon, Llull, and Hezonja, reaching their best moment with a 41-28 advantage.

Madrid did not allow the visitors to contest the victory in the final stretch. They responded decisively, and although the Movistar Arena could not enjoy another stellar performance, they completely neutralized Hapoel’s offensive threats. The team showcased very high shooting accuracy with 39.1% in 2-point shots and an impressive 25 of 28 free throws made.

Feliz and Lyles joined Hezonja, Maledon, and Campazzo in the group of players with double-digit scoring, as the lead extended to 22 points in the final stretch (92-83). Madrid, undefeated at home in Europe for five months, will host Anadolu Efes in less than 48 hours to conclude this week’s EuroLeague double-header.
