Player Profile

When Zhaire Smith drives toward the basket, time seems to stand still. Named the best dunker in the Dallas area in high school, this 6'5" small forward turns every trip to the rim into a spectacle — an athletic gift running through his veins ever since his father Billy played at Kansas State.

Basketball seemed destined for him. After earning MVP honors in his high school conference at Lakeview Centennial, Smith joined Texas Tech in 2017 and immediately propelled the Red Raiders to a historic Elite Eight run in March Madness. His single college season was enough to convince scouts: Phoenix selected him 16th overall in the 2018 NBA Draft, only to trade him that same night to Philadelphia.

But fate sometimes has unexpected trials in store. A serious foot injury, followed by a life-threatening allergic reaction, turned his rookie season into an ordeal. These medical complications derailed what had seemed like a clear path forward, forcing the young forward to patiently rebuild his career.

Far from giving up, Smith accumulated experiences: the G League with the Delaware Blue Coats, stints overseas, and even the Puerto Rican league. Each step refined his natural defensive game and the athletic explosiveness that remains his trademark. At 24, Zhaire Smith embodies the perseverance of a talent that refuses to give in, determined to prove that obstacles do not define a career — they forge it.
