Player Profile

When Tyrese Martin scored 30 points in a Brooklyn Nets game in November 2024, he set a franchise record for a player on a two-way contract. But behind this historic performance lies a journey shaped by resilience and sacrifice.

A native of Allentown, Pennsylvania, Martin made his mark at William Allen High School by leading his team to its first conference title since 2006, earning him MVP honors in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference. After a prep year at Massanutten Military Academy, the versatile guard began his college career at Rhode Island before transferring to UConn, where he surpassed 1,000 career points in the NCAA.

The COVID-19 pandemic revealed Martin's character in an unexpected way. When his mother lost her job, he did not hesitate to work at a warehouse in Allentown to support his family, demonstrating a work ethic that still defines him today.

Selected 51st overall by Golden State in 2022 and then traded to Atlanta, Martin navigated between the NBA and the G League with the Hawks, the College Park Skyhawks, and the Iowa Wolves. His defensive versatility, ability to guard multiple positions, and rebounding skills eventually caught the attention of the Brooklyn Nets.

His franchise record marked a decisive turning point. In February 2025, the Nets converted his two-way contract into a standard NBA contract, rewarding his perseverance. Martin perfectly embodies a generation of players who climb the ranks through determination rather than the spotlight.
