On January 1, 2025, Tyler Kolek achieved the extremely rare feat of playing two games on the same day: 36 points and 11 assists with the Westchester Knicks in the G League in the morning, then a valuable contribution with the New York Knicks in the NBA that evening. This exceptional performance perfectly illustrates the unique journey of this 23-year-old point guard, shaped by unwavering determination.
Coming from a basketball family in Rhode Island, Tyler grew up in the shadow of his father Kevin, a renowned former college player, and his older brother Brandon. This sporting heritage quickly forged his basketball IQ and natural leadership, qualities that earned him the title of Gatorade Player of the Year in his home state. But it is his physical style of play and court vision that truly left a lasting impression.
His college journey reflects his adaptability: after being named the Atlantic 10's best freshman at George Mason, he transferred to Marquette where he refined his game. This varied experience caught the attention of NBA scouts, who appreciated his early tactical maturity.
Selected 34th overall in the 2024 draft by Portland and immediately traded to the Knicks, Kolek now navigates between the NBA and G League with a clear philosophy: seize every opportunity to improve.
