Player Profile

When Tristen Newton averaged 37.2 points per game during his final season at Burges High School, few could have imagined he would become the architect of one of the most impressive dynasties in recent college basketball. This point guard from El Paso transformed his 3,266 high school points into a vision of the game that would revolutionize the UConn Huskies' offense.

After setting the assists record for a freshman at East Carolina University, Newton chose to transfer to Storrs for a more ambitious challenge. The gamble paid off beyond all expectations. As the starting point guard, he orchestrated a team game of rare fluidity, becoming the first player in program history to record four career triple-doubles.

Newton exemplified the ability to blend personal statistics with team success. His performances were the driving force behind UConn's back-to-back national championships in 2023 and 2024, making him one of the most decorated point guards of his college generation. His ability to elevate his teammates' level in crucial moments particularly impressed observers.

Selected 49th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft by the Indiana Pacers, Newton quickly joined the Minnesota Timberwolves organization on a two-way contract. Splitting time between the NBA and the Iowa Wolves in the G League, he is now refining his adjustment to the professional pace, drawing on his unique experience as a two-time college champion.
