When Richard Lee "Trey" Jemison III's 7'0" frame sets up under the basket, rebounds seem to belong to him by right. This center from Birmingham has turned his passion for defense into a true trademark, setting a historic UAB record with 329 rebounds in a single season.
His high school career in Alabama already hinted at a well-rounded player: state champion with Homewood in 2016, then averaging 19 points, 15 rebounds, and 5 blocks per game at Hoover. Despite offers from Harvard and Alabama, Jemison chose Clemson before finding his true calling at UAB. There, he established himself as a fearsome defender, earning two selections to the Conference USA All-Defensive Team.
Going undrafted in 2023, Jemison refused to give up. His determination took him from the Phoenix Suns to the Washington Wizards, then to the Memphis Grizzlies and the New Orleans Pelicans. Between ten-day contracts and two-way deals, he accumulated NBA experience while dominating in the G League with the Birmingham Squadron.
Beyond the court, his deep Christian faith shines through in the Bible studies he hosts on Instagram, revealing a compelling personality that goes far beyond the athlete. In January 2025, the Los Angeles Lakers offered him a new two-way contract, a recognition of his perseverance and defensive abilities.
