When Scotty Pippen Jr. recorded his first NBA triple-double, he didn't just reach a personal milestone — he etched his name in history alongside his father Scottie, becoming the first father-son duo to each record a triple-double in the league.
Born in Portland in 2000 while his father was playing for the Trail Blazers, the young point guard grew up in the shadow of a Bulls legend but carved his own path. At Sierra Canyon in California, he played alongside future NBA talents Marvin Bagley III and Kenyon Martin Jr., contributing to a CIF Open Division state championship. That experience at the highest level of high school basketball, combined with his time with the Oakland Soldiers in AAU, gave him a taste for elite competition.
At Vanderbilt, Pippen Jr. quickly proved his worth by earning a spot on the SEC All-Freshman Team. Over his college years, he took on a lead offensive role, becoming the Commodores' primary creator and scorer before entering the 2022 NBA Draft.
Going undrafted, he seized the opportunity offered by the Lakers with a two-way contract, splitting time between the NBA and the G League with South Bay. That formative experience allowed him to sharpen his game and attract the attention of the Grizzlies, who offered him a standard four-year contract in 2023.
