Player Profile
When Ryan Dunn stepped onto NBA courts at just 21 years old, few could have imagined the winding path that led him to the Phoenix Suns. Born into a family of athletes — his older brother Justin plays in Major League Baseball — this 6'8" forward had to go through many stages to unlock his potential.
His high school journey perfectly illustrates his determination: after Oak Hill Academy in Virginia, he moved to Long Island Lutheran in his home state of New York, before completing his development at The Perkiomen School in Pennsylvania. It was there that Dunn truly broke out, leading his team to its first state championship game with impressive numbers: 11.9 points, 7.1 rebounds, 38 steals, and 30 blocks over 27 games.
A four-star recruit, he chose the University of Virginia where he built his reputation as an exceptional defender over two seasons. That defensive specialty quickly became his calling card, a rare asset that caught the attention of NBA scouts despite an offensive game still in development.
On June 26, 2024, Denver selected him 28th overall in the draft before immediately trading him to Phoenix. A few months later, on October 23, Dunn played his first NBA game in a Suns uniform. His rapid progression quickly earned him a spot in the starting lineup, validating Phoenix's draft-night gamble.
At the dawn of his professional career, Ryan Dunn embodies this new generation of versatile players, capable of quickly adapting to the demands of the highest level thanks to a work ethic forged through a non-linear but lesson-rich journey.
