Player Profile
When Riley Minix steps onto the court, few can imagine the winding journey that brought him to the San Antonio Spurs. This versatile 24-year-old guard embodies perseverance, having turned every obstacle into a stepping stone toward his NBA ambitions.
It all started at Vero Beach High School, where a late growth spurt suddenly revealed his potential. Already playing AAU basketball since the age of eight against older players, he became a standout, earning MVP and District 19 Player of the Year honors. At the same time, the dedicated student maintained a 4.50 GPA and graduated with honors, already establishing the dual excellence in academics and athletics that defines him.
His college journey reflects that same determination. After starting at Southeastern University (NAIA), Minix seized the opportunity presented by the pandemic to transfer to Morehead State in NCAA Division I. Along the way, a serious upper-body injury during his sophomore year could have shattered his dreams. Instead, it strengthened his mental toughness and broadened his versatility on the court.
Going undrafted in the 2024 NBA Draft, he impressed enough during the Summer League to earn a two-way contract with the Spurs in July, which was confirmed in October. Unfortunately, a labrum tear cut short his first professional season after just one NBA game.
Now recovering, Minix is already preparing his return, armed with the resilience that has always defined his path. For this competitor accustomed to overcoming adversity, rehabilitation is simply another step toward fulfilling his ambitions in the big league.
