When Patrick Baldwin Jr., nicknamed "PBJ", steps onto NBA courts, few would imagine that this 22-year-old forward had to overcome an ankle injury that could have abruptly derailed his path to professional basketball. The son of Patrick Baldwin Sr., a former college player turned coach, and Shawn Baldwin, a former college volleyball player, he grew up in an environment where athletic excellence was second nature.
The family's move to Wisconsin in 2017, when his father became head coach at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, marked a decisive turning point. Despite suffering an ankle injury late in high school that cut short his senior season, Baldwin Jr. confirmed his five-star prospect status by being selected for the McDonald's All-American Game, the Jordan Brand Classic, and the Nike Hoop Summit.
His freshman season in Milwaukee, though shortened by injuries, showcased his potential with averages of 12.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. That performance was enough to convince the Golden State Warriors to select him 28th overall in the 2022 NBA Draft, validating his bold decision to enter after just one college season.
Since then, Baldwin Jr. has navigated the NBA landscape, moving from the Warriors to the Washington Wizards before joining the Los Angeles Clippers on a two-way contract in 2024. Off the court, this video game and guitar enthusiast also finds time to engage in charitable efforts, including distributing meals to those in need. At 22, "PBJ" continues to patiently carve out his place in the league, armed with the resilience forged through his early challenges.
