Player Profile

When Kyle Filipowski's 7-foot frame walks onto a court, few would guess that this basketball giant grew up in the shadow of two former college players who shaped his understanding of the game from an early age.

Born in Middletown, New York, the big man inherited a deep family passion for basketball. David and Rebecca Filipowski, who played at Slippery Rock University and Long Beach State respectively, passed on to their son far more than their height: a thorough understanding of the tactical nuances that defines his game today. This early basketball education set him on a nomadic academic path, from Minisink Valley High School to the prestigious Wilbraham & Monson Academy in Massachusetts, where he was named the state's top high school player in 2021.

A five-star recruit courted by programs across the country, Filipowski chose Duke University, a storied temple of college basketball. However, his rise to the top took an unexpected detour: hip surgery in April 2023 to correct a joint condition. That physical setback did not shake his resolve, and despite the controversies surrounding his personal life ahead of the 2024 NBA Draft, the Utah Jazz bet on his potential by selecting him with the 32nd pick.

Now splitting time between the Jazz's main roster and the Salt Lake City Stars in the G League, Filipowski is refining his professional game with the patience of a player who knows that the strong foundations built within his family will pay off in the long run.
