Player Profile
When your parents name you after Kobe Bryant and name your younger brother after Isaiah Thomas, the pressure is immediately placed on your shoulders. For Kobe Bufkin, that legendary reference only fueled his determination to climb the ranks of basketball.
Already in high school at Grand Rapids Christian High School, the young guard showed he was worthy of that exceptional name. Three All-State selections and an invitation to the prestigious McDonald's All-American Boys Game in 2021 confirmed his status as a top prospect. His senior season promised to be spectacular, with averages of 25 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists per game, before a wrist injury abruptly cut his momentum short.
That setback only strengthened his resilience. At the University of Michigan, Bufkin became the youngest player on the Wolverines' roster in 2022-23, turning that responsibility into an opportunity. His rapid development earned him a Third-team All-Big Ten selection during his sophomore season, rewarding his steady progress and early maturity.
The NBA came calling in 2023, and the Atlanta Hawks did not hesitate to bet on his potential, selecting him 15th overall in the draft. Playing between the Hawks and their G League affiliate, the College Park Skyhawks, Bufkin has been refining a game built on athleticism, ball-handling, and a remarkable defensive commitment.
