Player Profile

When Kevin McCullar Jr. made NCAA history by recording back-to-back triple-doubles during the 2023-24 season, he became the first player to achieve that feat in over fifteen years. This exceptional performance perfectly captures the journey of an athlete who has turned every obstacle into an opportunity.

The San Antonio native faced his first challenges at Karen Wagner High School, where a tibia fracture during his junior season forced him to graduate earlier than planned. Far from discouraging him, that injury forged his determination. After three seasons at Texas Tech, McCullar chose to join the Kansas Jayhawks to sharpen his game, earning his college degree along the way in May 2023.

It was in Kansas that McCullar truly showcased the full extent of his talent. A fearsome defender, he ranks 11th on the all-time steals list in Big 12 Conference history and was a three-time semifinalist for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year award. His college statistics are impressive: 1,517 points, 745 rebounds, 338 assists, and 217 steals speak to his versatility.

Selected 56th overall by the Phoenix Suns in the 2024 NBA Draft, then traded to the New York Knicks with whom he signed a two-way contract, McCullar carries a family sporting legacy. His father, Kevin Sr., a former college linebacker at Texas Tech, also played professionally in NFL Europe and the XFL. After making his NBA debut on March 25, 2025, McCullar begins a new chapter, armed with his legendary tenacity and basketball IQ.
