Player Profile

When Jordan McLaughlin heard no calls during the 2018 NBA Draft, many would have given up. Not "J-Mac". The point guard from Pasadena, California, turned that disappointment into fuel for a remarkable rise to the big league.

Coming from a sports-minded family where his father played in minor league baseball, McLaughlin grew up in Etiwanda with competition in his blood. His 19 points at the prestigious 2013 Chicago Elite Classic had already caught the attention of recruiters, allowing him to choose USC over powerhouses Kansas and UCLA. Four years at Southern California forged his leadership character, but the draft overlooked him.

The summer of 2018 marked the beginning of an exemplary story of perseverance. After a stint with the Brooklyn Nets in Summer League, McLaughlin honed his game with the Long Island Nets in the G League. His hard work paid off: the Minnesota Timberwolves offered him a two-way contract in 2019. The point guard seized his opportunity and quickly earned a standard contract, establishing himself as a reliable rotation piece for five seasons.

In July 2024, McLaughlin briefly joined Sacramento before being traded to the San Antonio Spurs in February 2025, where he continued his journey. His work ethic and leadership qualities transformed an undrafted player into a respected NBA guard. At 29, J-Mac perfectly embodies this basketball truth: talent alone is not enough — it is determination that makes the difference.
