Player Profile
When Jordan Hawkins won the NCAA title with UConn in April 2023, his cousin Angel Reese lifted the national women's trophy with LSU just two days later. A remarkable family coincidence that perfectly captures the basketball DNA of this young guard born in Gaithersburg.
Hawkins' path to the top was far from a smooth ride. After shining at DeMatha Catholic High School — a well-regarded program that earned him the Maryland Gatorade Player of the Year award — the guard had to deal with injuries from the moment he arrived at the University of Connecticut. Two concussions could have derailed his ambitions, but Hawkins turned those setbacks into extra motivation.
His scoring ability and long-range shooting quickly became his signature weapons in a Huskies uniform. Convincing enough to forgo his remaining college eligibility after the national title, Hawkins made the leap to the professional level by declaring for the 2023 NBA Draft.
The New Orleans Pelicans had no hesitation betting on his potential, selecting him with the 14th pick. From his rookie season onward, the guard split time between development with the Birmingham Squadron in the G League and notable contributions at the highest level, particularly through offensive performances that already recalled his college qualities.
At just 21 years old, Hawkins now has the NBA platform to fully express his scoring talent, backed by a resilience forged through adversity and the experience of succeeding at the highest level of college basketball.
