Player Profile
When Jarrett Culver led the Texas Tech Red Raiders to the NCAA championship final in 2019, few could have imagined he would be playing for the Sendai 89ers in Japan five years later. Yet this unconventional journey reveals the determination of a player who never stopped chasing his passion.
Originally from Dallas but raised in Lubbock from the age of three, Culver grew up in a family where sports and faith hold a central place. His father, a pastor and chaplain for the Texas Tech team, along with his brothers J.J. and Trey, both athletes, shaped his character. Before dedicating himself entirely to basketball, young Jarrett was already exploring his athletic versatility through football and soccer.
His college breakthrough at Texas Tech left a lasting impression. By leading the Red Raiders to their first NCAA final, Culver established himself as a complete forward, combining offensive versatility with defensive intensity. This exceptional performance opened the doors to the NBA, where he was selected 6th overall in the 2019 draft by Phoenix before being traded to Minnesota.
His time in the NBA, with the Timberwolves, Memphis and Atlanta, then in the G League with the Osceola Magic, reflects the challenges inherent in adapting to the highest level. Known for his remarkable work ethic and defensive skills, Culver draws on his deep faith to find the strength to persevere in the face of adversity.
Now in the Japanese B.League, the 25-year-old forward continues to write his story, proving that a love of the game transcends geographical boundaries.
