Player Profile
When Jae'Sean Tate was eight years old, tragedy struck his family with the death of his mother, Cori Key. This early hardship shaped the character of a man who would turn every obstacle into a stepping stone toward success.
At Pickerington High School Central, Tate excelled in both basketball and football, ranking among the top players in Ohio. However, a shoulder injury forced him to make a definitive choice in favor of basketball, a decision that would prove pivotal to his future. ESPN ranked him 15th among national small forwards, a testament to his exceptional potential.
At Ohio State (2014–2018), injuries continued to challenge him, at times even leading him to consider switching sports. But Tate persevered, becoming team captain and one of the program's all-time leading scorers. A tattoo on his leg depicting a key honors the memory of his mother, a permanent reminder of his roots and deep motivation.
Going undrafted in the 2018 NBA Draft, he began his professional career in Europe with the Antwerp Giants and then in Australia with the Sydney Kings. This international experience refined his game and strengthened his resolve.
In 2020, the Houston Rockets gave him his chance in the NBA. Despite his modest size for a forward, Tate quickly established himself through his remarkable defensive intensity and versatility. His ability to play multiple positions, combined with his exemplary work ethic, makes him a valuable player for any team seeking a true competitor.
