Player Profile
When Garrison Mathews scored 44 points in the 2019 NIT quarterfinal, then added 34 more in the semifinal, he propelled Lipscomb to a historic final and etched his name in college basketball history. This sharpshooter from Franklin, Tennessee had already written his legend long before reaching the NBA.
After playing football in high school at Franklin, Mathews chose to focus exclusively on basketball at Lipscomb University. That winning bet led him to the top of the program's history. His Division I records speak for themselves: highest single-game scoring total, all-time leading scorer in university history, and king of the three-point shot. More than just a shooter, this versatile guard transformed Lipscomb into a rising force in college basketball.
The peak of his college career came in his junior year when he guided the Bisons to their first March Madness appearance. But it was at the NIT that Mathews revealed the full extent of his offensive talent, carrying his team all the way to the final with legendary performances that still resonate throughout Tennessee.
Going undrafted in the 2019 NBA Draft, Mathews refused to give up. He earned a two-way contract with the Washington Wizards and honed his skills with the Capital City Go-Go in the G League. His perseverance paid off: he stepped onto NBA courts with Washington, Houston, and Atlanta, wearing numbers 24 and 25. His long-range accuracy and versatility at the guard position make him a valuable asset for any rotation.
