Player Profile
When Dereon Seabron scored 39 points and grabbed 18 rebounds in a quadruple-overtime victory against Nebraska, he didn't just break an ACC-Big Ten Challenge record — he perfectly illustrated his ability to turn obstacles into opportunities.
The journey of this American forward reads like a series of challenges overcome with remarkable determination. After leading Lake Taylor High School to its first state title as Virginia 4A Player of the Year, Seabron had to spend a prep year at Massanutten Military Academy to attract the attention of college recruiters. Once at NC State, a new setback arose: an entire season lost to academic ineligibility that could have crushed many players' ambitions.
But Seabron turned that setback into motivation. He came back stronger, earned ACC Freshman of the Week honors with a double-double against Notre Dame, then delivered that historic performance against the Cornhuskers that will forever be etched in college basketball history.
Going undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft, he refused to give up. The New Orleans Pelicans offered him a two-way contract, the first step in a professional journey that took him from the Detroit Pistons to the Motor City Cruise, and then to the Salt Lake City Stars in December 2024. Each stop has further forged the resilience that defines him.
At 24 years old, Seabron continues to sharpen his game in the G League, carrying that same mindset that has allowed him to turn every challenge into a stepping stone toward his NBA goals.
