Player Profile

When Dejounte Murray talks about his journey from the tough streets of Seattle to the NBA hardwood, he holds nothing back about the brutal reality that shaped his character. Growing up in Seattle's South End, surrounded by gun violence and drugs, homelessness, and a parent's incarceration, could have crushed many dreams. But for Murray, those hardships became the fuel for an unbreakable determination.

At Rainier Beach High School, a legendary basketball institution, the young point guard found an invaluable mentor in Jamal Crawford. Under his guidance, Murray transformed his raw potential into pure excellence, leading his team to three consecutive Class 3A state championships. His outstanding performances earned him Washington Mr. Basketball honors and Player of the Year recognition from The Seattle Times.

His brief stint at the University of Washington confirmed his status as a promising prospect. Named to the All-Pac-12 Second Team and the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team, Murray wasted no time making the leap to the NBA after just one college season. The San Antonio Spurs drafted him 29th overall in the 2016 NBA Draft, a bet that paid off handsomely.

Since his debut on October 29, 2016, Murray has worn the jerseys of the Spurs, the Atlanta Hawks, and now the New Orleans Pelicans. But beyond the statistics, it is his commitment to youth that truly defines the man. By openly sharing his personal story, Murray offers far more than a testimony — he extends a helping hand to those weathering the same storms he once faced.
