Player Profile

When David Duke Jr. chose basketball over football in high school, few could have imagined he would become one of the most versatile guards of his generation. Born in Providence to Liberian parents, the son of David and Sharon Duke first explored soccer, football, and track and field before finding his calling on the hardwood.

His high school journey perfectly illustrates his determination. Starting out on the junior varsity squad at Classical High School as a freshman, Duke Jr. worked his way up to lead his team to a State Division 1 championship, averaging 15 points per game. That rapid rise earned him a spot at the prestigious Cushing Academy in Massachusetts, where he chose to repeat his junior year to sharpen his game.

That strategic decision paid off. At Cushing Academy, Duke Jr. led his team to the NEPSAC Class AA title while putting up impressive numbers: 17 points, five rebounds, and four assists per game in his senior year. Those performances drew interest from major programs such as Virginia Tech, Florida, Indiana, and Villanova.

Despite those high-profile offers, the guard chose to stay true to his roots by committing to Providence College. Rated as a four-star prospect, Duke Jr. stands out for his remarkable work ethic and athletic versatility — qualities that more than make up for his late entry into high-level basketball.
