Player Profile

When Colin Castleton blocks a shot, it is the culmination of a journey full of obstacles that took him from the benches of Michigan to NBA courts. This center from Pembroke Pines, Florida, carries a family athletic legacy: his father Eddie represented Panama in baseball, passing on to his son the determination that defines elite athletes.

Castleton's nomadic childhood, between Tampa, Fort Benning and DeLand, shaped an adaptable character that would serve him well later in life. At Father Lopez Catholic High School in Daytona Beach, he truly exploded onto the scene: averaging 24.5 points, 11.7 rebounds and 5.6 blocks per game in his senior year. Those impressive numbers opened the doors of more than 30 prestigious universities, but Michigan was his choice despite the many temptations.

Two difficult seasons at Michigan, spent mostly on the bench and disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, could have crushed his ambitions. Instead, Castleton made a bold decision: transferring to the University of Florida. That gamble paid off. Over three seasons with the Gators, he finally unlocked his potential, particularly on defense where his shot-blocking ability was outstanding.

A hand injury in 2023 threatened to stop everything, but Castleton refused to give up. Going undrafted in the NBA Draft, he persevered and ultimately secured contracts with the Los Angeles Lakers and then the Toronto Raptors. His journey perfectly illustrates that in basketball, resilience can turn setbacks into opportunities.
