Player Profile
When Cole Swider picked up his phone in 2022, it was Magic Johnson on the other end informing him of his signing with the Los Angeles Lakers. A surreal moment for someone who, just a few years earlier, had been terrorizing opposing defenses from Rhode Island with 31 points per game in his final year of high school.
Swider's journey perfectly illustrates the winding paths of modern basketball. After shining at St. Andrew's School, where he earned Gatorade Player of the Year honors, the power forward joined Villanova, a temple of college basketball. But it was his transfer to Syracuse for his senior season that revealed his true potential. In Jim Boeheim's system, Swider immediately became a starter and fully exploited his main weapon: a deadly three-point shot that stretches defenses.
This ability to play away from the basket while operating as a big man makes him a sought-after profile in today's NBA. His high school statistics speak for themselves: 26.5 points and 11.2 rebounds as a junior, before exploding to over 30 points per game. His selection for the Jordan Brand Classic and the Nike Hoop Summit confirmed his status as a four-star prospect.
Basketball runs in the Swider family: his sister Kylie also played at Villanova, on the women's side. Since leaving college, Cole has navigated various NBA organizations, from the Lakers to the Miami Heat, and the Detroit Pistons. His recent stint with the Toronto Raptors in 2025 speaks to his perseverance and ability to adapt in an unforgiving environment.
