When Brodric Thomas set the single-season scoring record at Truman State with 666 points, few could have imagined that this point guard from Bolingbrook, Illinois, had already survived a journey filled with obstacles that would have discouraged many players. Less recruited than his high school teammates, Thomas had begun his college career at Truman State before an injury and academic struggles forced him to redirect to Southwestern Community College.
That detour proved to be a blessing in disguise: Thomas grew four inches and gained fifty pounds there, physically transforming his game. His metamorphosis peaked with an NJCAA Division II championship, a tournament MVP trophy, and a Second-Team All-American selection. Energized by this rebirth, he returned to Truman State where he pursued a psychology degree while continuing to refine his basketball skills.
His three seasons back were capped by that record-breaking senior performance, a validation of his perseverance. That resilience became his calling card: Thomas went on to navigate stints with the Houston Rockets, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Boston Celtics through G League or two-way contracts, proving his ability to adapt at the highest levels.
