When Armando Bacot steps onto the court, rebounds seem to naturally gravitate toward him. This center from Richmond, Virginia, turned that instinct into a true art form over five exceptional seasons at the University of North Carolina.
A five-star recruit after his time at Trinity Episcopal School and IMG Academy, Bacot chose Chapel Hill to write one of the most remarkable chapters in Tar Heels history. His longevity and consistency redefined the standards: 171 games played for UNC, an all-time record, and 168 consecutive ACC starts, a mark that speaks to his legendary reliability.
But it is under the boards that Bacot truly left his mark on an era. His 1,715 career rebounds set a new record for both UNC and the ACC, placing this achievement among the best in NCAA history. His 87 double-doubles round out a résumé that elevates him to the ranks of the most dominant big men of his generation. In a rare feat, he joined a very exclusive club of only three Tar Heels ever to surpass 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career.
A respected captain for his natural leadership and positive attitude, Bacot extended his college experience thanks to the extra year granted by the pandemic. That decision proved worthwhile: now a professional with the Memphis Hustle in the G League, he is showing encouraging progress, particularly from three-point range, expanding an already impressive skill set as he pursues the heights of professional basketball.
