When discussing the greatest ball-stealers in Gonzaga history, one name comes up immediately: Hall of Fame legend John Stockton. But right behind him in the university's record books stands a 6'8" power forward who left his mark on his generation through his exceptional defensive intelligence.
Anton Watson grew up immersed in basketball, shaped by the family legacy of his father Deon Sr., a former college and professional player. That influence paid off during his years at Gonzaga Preparatory School, where he led his team to multiple state championship titles, earning MVP honors each time along with statewide recognition in Washington that earned him four-star recruit status.
His time at Gonzaga University confirmed that promising potential. Watson established himself as a versatile and remarkably efficient power forward, ranking among the school's all-time leaders in field goal percentage and steals. His ability to anticipate passes and convert his attempts with remarkable consistency made him a valuable piece of the Bulldogs' system.
Selected in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics, Watson subsequently joined the New York Knicks organization, splitting time between the main roster and their G League affiliate, the Westchester Knicks.
