Player Profile
When Andrew Funk scored 27 points against Texas A&M last March, he didn't just set his personal record: he gave Penn State its first March Madness victory since 2001. That achievement perfectly sums up the journey of this shooting guard from Warrington, Pennsylvania, who has always pushed through obstacles with determination.
Developed at Archbishop Wood High School, Funk followed a remarkable upward trajectory. Named Sixth Man of the Year as a junior, he established himself as the top player in the Philadelphia Catholic League during his senior season. Under his leadership, his team compiled a record of 28 wins and 3 losses, claiming the school's first-ever league title and the Class 5A state championship.
Basketball runs in the Funk family. His brother Tommy played at the college level at Army West Point, reflecting a shared passion for the sport. But Andrew stands out for his versatility: holding a business administration degree from Bucknell and a master's in management from Penn State, he was recognized as Academic All-District for his academic excellence.
That academic rigor is reflected on the court, where Funk has built a reputation as a reliable and consistent shooter. After getting a taste of the NBA with the Chicago Bulls, he is now honing his game with the Grand Rapids Gold in the G League. At 24, this methodical perfectionist has all the tools to turn his NBA dream into a lasting reality.
