Peter Jok discovers Mongolia

Peter Jok (1.98m, 31 years old), well known to French fans for his stints at Cholet Basket (2019-2020 and 2021-2022) and Nantes (2023), is taking an unexpected turn in his career. The South Sudanese shooting guard from the University of Iowa is heading to Mongolia, where he will play for IHC Apes in the coming months.

A career marked by diverse experiences
Born in South Sudan and raised in the United States, Peter Jok developed his game at the University of Iowa between 2013 and 2017, where he built a solid reputation as a scorer (averaging 19 points as a senior). Undrafted, he then played in the G-League with the Northern Arizona Suns and Sioux Falls Skyforce.
His European adventure began at Cholet Basket in 2019-2020 (averaging 10 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist over 23 games), where he impressed with his outside shooting (47% from 3-point range). After a stint in Spain with Murcia, he returned to Cholet for the 2021-2022 season to revitalize his career following a challenging year across the Pyrenees (6 points per game). Unfortunately, he wasn’t as convincing as during his first stint (7.4 points on 42% 3-point shooting, and 2.8 rebounds). He was later seen in France again, this time in Pro B with Nantes to finish the 2022-2023 season (averaging 7 points and 3 rebounds) replacing the injured Malcolm Duvivier.
From Croatia to Mongolia: an exotic choice
Last season, Jok played in Croatia’s first division with KK Cibona Zagreb, where he posted solid stats in the national championship (13 points, 4 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 17 games). For 2025-2026, he has chosen a rather unexpected destination: Mongolia.
He will wear the jersey of IHC Apes, one of 10 clubs in the local championship, marking his first Asian adventure. This is a unique challenge for the 30-year-old South Sudanese international, who continues to write a career that’s decidedly off the beaten path.
