American universities continue to recruit young professional players from Europe. The famous Michigan State university is about to announce the arrival of Noam Yaacov (1.85m, 20 years old), young point guard from Hapoel Tel-Aviv who previously came through ASVEL’s youth system, where he was integrated into the pro team very early.

Loaned to Hapoel Jerusalem by the Villeurbanne club before signing with Tel-Aviv, Noam Yaacov is crossing the Atlantic to restart his career. Despite winning the 2025 EuroCup with Hapoel Tel-Aviv, the point guard was rarely used by his coach Dimitris Itoudis. During the victorious European campaign, Yaacov only appeared eight times, averaging 2.8 points with 32% shooting, 1 rebound and 2.1 assists in 10 minutes per game.

His involvement in the local championship was more significant. He participated in 19 of 26 regular season games, averaging 4.9 points with 34% shooting, 2.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 17 minutes per game. Rumors of his departure were already circulating in autumn, as his club no longer counted on him after just one month of competition.

With Tom Izzo as head coach

After experiencing EuroLeague and Betclic Elite with ASVEL and EuroCup with Tel-Aviv, Noam Yaacov needs to take a step back to move forward. Even after playing professionally, the Michigan State opportunity is attractive, both financially and visibility-wise. With the Spartans, he will compete in the Big Ten conference and will be coached by the legendary Tom Izzo (70 years old), who has been MSU’s head coach for 31 seasons.
