New setback for Boulazac: key player seriously injured and likely out for the season

Newly promoted to Betclic ELITE, Boulazac Basket Dordogne is having a very complicated offseason. After the withdrawal of Anthony Polite and the injury of Hugo Robineau in preseason, Malik Fitts (6’6″, 28 years old) will miss a large part – if not all – of the 2025-2026 season.

A knee that says stop
Arriving in Dordogne in late August to replace Polite, Malik Fitts will likely not wear the BBD jersey this season. Suffering a serious knee injury, the former SIG Strasbourg forward underwent successful surgery in Périgueux. But as the club announced, « this serious injury heavily compromises his season ».
This is a tough blow for Boulazac, already without Hugo Robineau, injured in preseason, and who had to deal with Anthony Polite’s surprise withdrawal. Coach Alexandre Ménard and management will have to search for another forward once again.
A second French season cut short
Having played for Boston and reaching the NBA Finals in 2022 with the Celtics, Malik Fitts discovered Betclic ELITE last season with Strasbourg. Though hampered by injuries (only 14 games played), he had shown his potential, like during a standout performance in the French Cup against Nancy (29 points).
Recruited by Boulazac to bring his experience and versatility at positions 3 and 4, he won’t be able to start this « redemption season » expected in Dordogne.
An already weakened roster
As the Betclic ELITE season starts in a few days, Boulazac must deal with an already diminished roster. The perimeter positions are severely impacted, and finding a replacement becomes a priority to hope to compete in the elite division.
In its statement, BBD concludes by expressing its support to its player: « The entire BBD family sends Malik its warmest thoughts during this difficult time in an athlete’s life, and wishes him a very good recovery! »
