Victor Wembanyama propels San Antonio: Spurs secure home-court advantage in playoffs and dream bigger

NBA Playoffs - Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs continue their unstoppable rise to power. Thanks to their commanding victory in Memphis (123-98), the Texas franchise is now guaranteed to finish in the top 4 in the West, securing home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

A collective demonstration… and an omnipresent Wembanyama

Against diminished and overwhelmed Grizzlies, the Spurs quickly settled the matter. From the opening minutes, the gap widened and never closed, with an advantage exceeding 20 points by the third quarter.

In just 26 minutes, Victor Wembanyama delivered another complete performance: 19 points, 15 rebounds, and most notably 7 blocks. All without playing the fourth quarter.

The Frenchman even came close to another statistical feat with a near five-by-five (at least 5 units in five categories). He finished with 3 assists and 3 steals, falling just short in two categories. His impact goes beyond the numbers. « Nobody possesses the impact he has on a game, » highlighted his teammate Stephon Castle (1.98m, 21 years old) after the contest.

A playoff return already historic for San Antonio

With 55 victories, the Spurs are officially guaranteed to return to the playoffs for the first time in seven years. And this return will come under ideal conditions, with home-court advantage in the first round.

For Victor Wembanyama, the anticipation is immense, particularly at the Frost Bank Center: « I can easily imagine what it’s going to be… I’m very enthusiastic. And I’m certain it’s going to exceed my expectations. »

Carried by a 7-game winning streak (23 wins in their last 25 games), San Antonio arrives with momentum at the best moment of the season.

A season finish to aim even higher?

What if this is just the beginning? Taking advantage of Oklahoma City’s defeat, the Spurs are now just two wins away from the top of the Western Conference.

With nine games remaining in the regular season, the momentum clearly favors the Texans, who now manage their contests with authority, even allowing their starters to rest during game endings. San Antonio will travel to Milwaukee this Saturday, with the opportunity to continue putting pressure on the Thunder.

One thing is certain: around Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs no longer want to simply participate in the playoffs. They want to mark their territory.
