Mason Plumlee signs 10-day contract with San Antonio

The San Antonio Spurs have officially signed veteran center Mason Plumlee to a 10-day contract. According to Shams Charania of ESPN, this acquisition aims to strengthen the Spurs’ frontcourt depth, who had an open roster spot after waiving Jeremy Sochan last week.
A veteran to bring depth
At 35 years old, Plumlee is entering his 13th NBA season and brings considerable experience to San Antonio. The center started the season with the Charlotte Hornets, but only played 14 games averaging 1.9 points and 2.9 rebounds. His last appearance was on December 22 against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Traded by Charlotte to Oklahoma City in a three-team deal before the trade deadline, Plumlee was waived by the Thunder. Over his entire career, the veteran averages 7.9 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.
A complementary profile for the Spurs
This signing recalls the strategy adopted by San Antonio last season with Bismack Biyombo, although in a less desperate context. With a healthy Victor Wembanyama and Luke Kornet available, Plumlee will likely remain outside the regular rotation. He nevertheless provides an additional emergency option alongside Biyombo and Kelly Olynyk.
The Spurs now have five centers on their roster, behind Wembanyama, Kornet, Olynyk and Biyombo. Plumlee stands out for his court vision and basketball IQ, with a career average of 2.4 assists. He excels in quick reads on inbound plays and in the short game.
San Antonio can offer Plumlee a full contract once his 10-day deal expires, depending on how their needs evolve for the end of the season and their playoff push.
