Luka Doncic separates from his fiancée: legal battle for custody of his daughters
Luka Doncic confirms his separation from Anamaria Goltes following tensions over the custody of their two daughters. The Lakers player is going through a difficult period personally despite his exceptional performances on the court.

The Lakers star Luka Doncic is currently going through a tumultuous period in his personal life. The 27-year-old Slovenian player confirmed on Tuesday his separation from his fiancée Anamaria Goltes, with whom he had shared his life since 2016. This breakup comes amid a legal battle for custody of their two daughters, Gabriela (born November 2023) and Olivia (born December 2025).
« I love my daughters more than anything and I’ve been doing everything I can for them to be with me in the United States during the season, but that wasn’t possible, so I recently made the difficult decision to end my engagement, » Doncic said in a statement. « Everything I do is for my daughters’ happiness and I will always fight to be with them and give them the best life possible. »

An incident in Slovenia that marked the breakup
The situation deteriorated during Doncic’s trip to Slovenia last December to attend Olivia’s birth. The player had missed two Lakers games to be present for this event. According to ESPN reports, Doncic wanted to return to the United States with his older daughter Gabriela, which reportedly caused a disagreement with Goltes.
After the player’s calm departure from the Kranj maternity hospital, Anamaria Goltes allegedly contacted the police. Law enforcement, after questioning both parties, concluded in their report that they had « found no elements constituting a criminal offense or misdemeanor. » Since his return to the United States, Doncic has not seen his daughters or his ex-partner again.
The legal battle is now intensifying on both sides of the Atlantic. On February 26, Doncic filed a motion for a temporary injunction with Slovenian courts to obtain « immediate contact » with his two daughters. For her part, Goltes filed a petition this week with a Los Angeles court requesting child support and coverage of legal fees.
Despite these personal turbulences, Doncic continues to shine on the courts. Leading the NBA in scoring with 32.5 points per game average, he again delivered a triple-double of 31 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists in the 120-106 victory against the Timberwolves on Tuesday night, just hours after announcing his separation. The Lakers now occupy fourth place in the Western Conference, and their new star seems determined not to let his personal problems affect his performance.
