Jordan Loyd shines with 37 points and a game-winning basket for Poland

Jordan Loyd continues to thrill Polish supporters. Affectionately nicknamed « Loydowski » since EuroBasket 2025, the American-Polish guard has just delivered an exceptional performance during the European qualifiers for the FIBA Basketball World Cup.

A clutch basket to silence Riga

In a hostile atmosphere in Riga, Jordan Loyd silenced the Latvian crowd in the most beautiful way. With only 3.7 seconds remaining on the clock, the Anadolu Efes Istanbul player hit a stepback three-pointer at the final buzzer, securing victory for Poland with a score of 84-82.

This remarkable 37-point performance, achieved with an impressive 7 of 15 from three-point range, goes directly into the history books of the European qualifiers for the World Cup. It is indeed the third-highest point total ever scored by a player in this competition.

A place in the history books

With seven made threes, Jordan Loyd finished just one shy of the record held by fellow Polish standout A.J. Slaughter. Fittingly, the only eight-three performance in this competition also came against Poland, when Italy’s Amedeo Della Valle hit eight from deep back in 2018.

This latest outburst only deepens the bond between Loyd and the Polish crowd — a connection that really took off during EuroBasket 2025 and keeps growing. Five other players have reached seven made threes in these qualifiers, putting “Loydowski” in a pretty exclusive club of elite shooters.
