Jericho Sims extends with Milwaukee Bucks for two seasons

The Milwaukee Bucks continue restructuring their roster by retaining Jericho Sims. The 26-year-old center has signed a new two-season contract with a player option for the second year, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.

A valuable addition to the interior rotation
Acquired during last season in a four-team trade involving the New York Knicks, Sims played 14 regular season games wearing the Bucks jersey. Despite limited playing time of 15 minutes per game, he averaged 2.4 points and 4.9 rebounds, demonstrating his impact in these areas.
A thumb injury kept him off the court during the last four weeks of regular season, but the Texas native returned in time for the playoffs. During the series against the Indiana Pacers, Sims participated in all five games with nearly 12 minutes of playing time per game.
Drafted 58th overall by the Knicks in 2021, the former Texas Longhorns player never managed to establish himself permanently in Tom Thibodeau’s rotation in New York. At Milwaukee, he will have the opportunity to play a more important role as backup to Myles Turner, recently recruited by the Bucks.
Sims’ contract, with a minimum amount of $2.46 million for the first season, represents a slight increase from the $2 million he earned in his last year in New York. This signing is part of general manager Jon Horst’s aggressive strategy to build a competitive roster around Giannis Antetokounmpo.
With Turner as starter and Sims as backup, Milwaukee now has a renewed interior rotation following the departures of Brook Lopez and the release of Damian Lillard. The Bucks are betting on the complementarity between Turner, a three-point shooter, and Sims, who is more athletic and effective near the rim.
