Élan Chalon kicks off its Betclic ELITE season this Tuesday evening (8pm) at the Colisée against Nanterre. Boosted by qualifying for Champions League (BCL) in Bulgaria, the Burgundy club has high ambitions. Their offensive leader,Jeremiah Hill (1.88m, 30 years), clearly states his objectives: aiming for the Top 4 in the championship.

An expected and assumed return

Arriving in summer 2023, the American-Cameroonian could have left after a brilliant end to the 2024-2025 season (averaging 27.8 points and 7.5 assists in April). But he chose to extend his stay in Chalon for two years, attracted by the project and his role despite potential better financial opportunities elsewhere. « I didn’t even test the market, » he confides to Le Journal de Saône-et-Loire, after explaining his choice.

« I had many discussions with the coach and Zac (Cuthbertson). We said we wanted to do something special here. That means making financial sacrifices. I believe the coach allows me to be the best version of myself as a basketball player. The freedom he gives me, what he expects from me… It’s very clear. And it works for me ».

Strengthened team dynamics

The BCL qualification highlighted a united team capable of imposing a high tempo. Hill praises the staff’s work and the complementarity of a strong roster: Clarence Nadolny, Yohan Choupas, Lionel Gaudoux, and Nate Darling have all already shown their impact.

« We have good guys. Credit goes to the coach who found all these puzzle pieces. […] Honestly, I think we can really finish in the Top 4 this season. I don’t see that many teams stronger than us this year. Especially with the players we kept, plus the new ones… It should go well, » Hill insists.

A clash to start the season

This Tuesday, against Nanterre, Chalon will seek to confirm its European momentum. For Hill, collective energy will be key: « We play a bit like Paris in recent years. Very fast. This year, we have more depth in our roster, which allows us to play this style. What we want is for the opposing team to be forced to speed up. » With the stated ambition of making the Colisée a fortress and establishing themselves among the Betclic ELITE’s elite.
