Guerschon Yabusele’s stint in New York came to a sudden close. The New York Knickss announced Wednesday night that the French forward was traded to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for guard Dalen Terry, according to ESPN. The move ends a challenging chapter for the former Real Madrid standout, who had nonetheless been New York’s most significant acquisition of the past offseason.

A Resounding Failure in the Big Apple

Yabusele never gained traction in Mike Brown’s system. In 41 appearances this season, the French power forward averaged just 2.7 points in 8.9 minutes per game, shooting a modest 39.3 percent from the field. After standing out at the Paris 2024 Olympics and then backing it up with Philadelphia (11 points per game, 38 percent from three), he found himself largely confined to the New York bench.

With the Knicks operating deep into the first luxury-tax tier, there was little flexibility to carry a $5.7 million contract tied to limited production. According to sources, the franchise had been actively shopping Yabusele for several weeks.

Dalen Terry to Provide Depth

In exchange, New York brings in Dalen Terry, the 22-year-old guard taken 18th overall in the 2022 draft. The former Arizona product has posted modest numbers in Chicago this season—3.5 points in 11.1 minutes per game—but he comes with the flexibility of an expiring deal that includes a team option.

Terry adds depth to the Knicks’ backcourt, even if he is unlikely to factor into the regular rotation right away. His spot-up shooting (41 percent from three on limited attempts) and defensive versatility offer situational value, particularly in the event of injuries.

For Yabusele, the move opens a potential path to reset his NBA trajectory. Chicago offers a less pressurized environment and, potentially, a clearer route to minutes. Now 30, the French forward holds a player option for the 2025–26 season and will look to recapture the form that stood out during the most recent Olympics.
