Germany’s head coach released from hospital and continues recovery at hotel

Alex Mumbru was finally able to leave Tampere hospital this Saturday evening after five nights of hospitalization. The 46-year-old Spanish head coach of Germany, had been admitted urgently last Monday to the Finnish facility due to an acute infection, according to information provided by the German Basketball Federation (DBB).
The former professional player will now continue his recovery at the team hotel, where he will receive appropriate medical monitoring. This hospital release marks an encouraging step in Mumbru’s healing process, which had worried the German staff for several days.
Alan Ibrahimagic serves as interim head coach
Before his hospitalization, the Spanish coach had already been complaining of discomfort for several days. Team doctor Oliver Pütz had diagnosed acute abdominal pain during the competition’s first rest day, requiring immediate hospital care.
In Mumbru’s absence, his assistant Alan Ibrahimagic has taken the reins of the German team. He has already coached the team during the EuroBasket opening game against Montenegro, then against Sweden and Lithuania. He will also be in charge this Monday for the game against Great Britain.
The DBB has not specified a timeline regarding Mumbru’s potential return to the German bench. The evolution of his health condition will determine if he can resume his duties before the end of the European competition. Meanwhile, the German team can rely on the continuity provided by Ibrahimagic to stay on course in this major tournament.
