EuroLeague targets 2.5 billion euro valuation and explores NBA collaboration

The EuroLeague announced on Tuesday its intention to increase its capital and its new discussions with the NBA regarding NBA Europe, following the operational leadership change made at the end of January.
During the ECA (Euroleague Commercial Assets) shareholders meeting held on Monday, March 2, transformative strategic initiatives were approved to accelerate the long-term growth of the EuroLeague. The board of directors validated an ambitious business plan aimed at raising the league’s financial valuation to 2.5 billion euros within the next three seasons.
This projection represents a significant increase compared to the last valuation conducted nearly two years ago, which stood at 1 billion euros. The strategic plan focuses on creating incremental asset value, modernizing infrastructure, and implementing a three-year expansion strategy.
A 1.5 billion euro fundraising?
Key components of this roadmap include evaluating the establishment of permanent licenses, called « franchises, » as well as expanding the number of licenses to ensure stability and continuity. The EuroLeague also plans to execute a roadmap focused on digital acceleration, direct-to-consumer capabilities, and strategic geographic expansion.
To support these growth initiatives, shareholders agreed to explore raising 1.5 billion euros in capital. Additional financing of at least 1 billion euros will be dedicated to a commercial vehicle focused on developing and modernizing EuroLeague arenas.
In its statement, ECA indicates that management confirmed projected revenue growth of 9% year-over-year, accompanied by a corresponding 18% increase in economic distributions to clubs. At the club level, market revenues have grown by 40% over the past three seasons according to the statement.
Promising discussions with the NBA
The new CEO of EuroLeague Basketball Chus Bueno informed the board of directors of recent constructive discussions held with NBA leadership regarding potential future collaboration opportunities in Europe. The board reaffirmed its openness to exploring a partnership framework, both at the league and club levels.
The ECA team will continue to engage with the NBA and jointly evaluate all potential strategic opportunities. This collaboration could mark a new era for European basketball, strengthening its position on the global stage while preserving the integrity and competitiveness that define EuroLeague Basketball.
