EuroBasket 2025 sensation with Finland, Miikka Muurinen (6’10 », 18 years old) will not return to AZ Compass. The forward is now exploring professional opportunities in Europe, Australia and elsewhere, his agent Teddy Archer confirmed to DraftExpress.

Finnish phenomenon on the market

Miikka Muurinen, nicknamed the « Slim Jesus » of Finnish basketball, had already made his mark during the EuroBasket 2025 round of 16 against Serbia with 9 points in 12 minutes, including a spectacular dunk and two three-pointers against Nikola Jokic. This performance thrust the teenager into the spotlight, confirming the expectations placed on him since his debut.

Already an international journey

After stints with Beat Basket in Järvenpää and Zentro Basket Madrid, Muurinen crossed the Atlantic to continue his development at Sunrise Christian Academy (Kansas) and then AZ Compass Prep (Arizona). His decision not to return to Chandler, in the Phoenix suburbs, opens a new chapter in his career, possibly already at the professional level.

Open options and a closely watched future

According to his agent, Miikka Muurinen is now exploring opportunities in Europe and Australia, while remaining open to other destinations. The 2027 NBA Draft remains in his sights, but EuroBasket has already made him a player watched by scouts worldwide.
