Cholet makes it two in a row in Betclic ELITE against Boulazac

Betclic ELITE - Without Keshawn Justice, who is out for six weeks, Cholet Basket secured their second victory in two Betclic ELITE games this Friday night against Boulazac (92-81). Young point guard Aaron Towo-Nansi took advantage to score his first professional points.

After starting their season with a victory in Strasbourg, Cholet Basket confirmed at home in La Meilleraie by defeating Boulazac (92-81). However, CB had to deal with a last-minute setback: Keshawn Justice’s unavailability, who underwent surgery for an inguinal hernia and will be out for at least six weeks.

In this context, Fabrice Lefrançois had to adjust his rotation, notably shifting Digué Diawara and giving more responsibility to young point guard Aaron Towo-Nansi (16 minutes, 8 points on 3/5 shooting). The Cholet crowd thus discovered a new face of the team, marked by solidarity and the rising influence of its young players.

A fighting but short-handed Boulazac

Facing them, Alexandre Ménard’s Périgord team was also depleted. Already without Amit Ebo and Hugo Robineau, they lost Jacob Grandison, who fell ill at the last minute. Nevertheless, NBA veteran Tony Snell (21 points on 8/10 shooting) kept BBD in the game for long stretches, even allowing his team to take the lead after halftime following a 15-0 run (43-48, 25th minute).

But Boulazac eventually ran out of steam, hampered by fouls and a short bench. With four players fouling out, the gap widened in the final quarter, as Cholet relied on their recovered shooting touch and T.J. Campbell’s experience (decisive three-pointer at 83-70).

CB maintains its status and secures a strong start

Despite some messy sequences and room for improvement in outside shooting, CB showed character to hold on. The Cholet bench, led by Chibuzo Agbo (15 points), Digué Diawara (11 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists for 15 efficiency rating, +19 in 21 minutes) and Towo-Nansi, stepped up to compensate for the absences.

With two wins in two games, Cholet Basket makes an ideal start in Betclic ELITE. This bodes well before a busy schedule, and while waiting for a medical replacement to fill in for Justice.
