Bradley Beal (6’4″, 32) begins a new chapter in his NBA career. The three-time All-Star guard has reached a buyout agreement with the Phoenix Suns and is set to sign a two-year, $11 million contract with the Los Angeles Clippers, including a player option for 2026-2027.

This separation ends a two-season stint in Arizona that never found its rhythm. Beal played only 106 games out of a possible 164, hampered by multiple injuries and difficult integration alongside Kevin Durant and Devin Booker.
A Costly but Liberating Buyout for Phoenix
To finalize this buyout, Beal gives up $13.9 million of the $110 million remaining on the final two years of his contract. The Suns will likely stretch the remaining salary over five years, allowing them to exit both the first and second salary apron.
This move gives Phoenix renewed flexibility to rebuild their roster. After trading Kevin Durant to Houston, the Suns continue their complete overhaul under new coach Jordan Ott and general manager Brian Gregory.
The 2023 acquisition of Beal from Washington in exchange for Chris Paul, Landry Shamet, and draft picks proves to be one of the most resounding failures in franchise history. His no-trade clause and massive contract had significantly limited Phoenix’s options.
A Golden Opportunity for the Clippers
For the Clippers, Beal’s arrival represents a masterful move. The guard will form a formidable trio with Kawhi Leonard and James Harden, bringing his scoring and playmaking abilities. Despite his struggles in Phoenix, Beal maintained respectable statistics with averages of 17.6 points, 4.3 assists, and 3.8 rebounds over two seasons, while shooting 50.5% from the field and 40.7% from three-point range.
According to Mark Bartelstein, Beal’s agent at Priority Sports, « the crucial element in the decision for Beal and his representation was finding the best basketball situation, above all else. » Several teams including the Heat, Bucks, Timberwolves, and Lakers had expressed interest.
The player option for 2026-2027 will allow Beal to become one of the most sought-after players in next summer’s free agent market. At 32, he has the opportunity to revitalize his career with a competitive team in the Western Conference.
