A record bid to beat Belgrade
Athens won the hosting rights thanks to an exceptional financial proposal, valued at approximately 9 million euros. This record bid allowed the Greek city to outbid Belgrade in the race to host the prestigious EuroLeague final tournament.
The schedule for the 2026 Final Four has already been set. The semi-finals will take place on Friday, May 22, while the final for the European title will be held on Sunday, May 24.
A return to roots for Greek basketball
This choice marks Greece’s return to hosting major European basketball events, following the 2025 Women’s EuroBasket and ahead of the 2029 Men’s EuroBasket. This will be the fourth Final Four organized on Greek soil, after the editions in Piraeus in 1993, Thessaloniki in 2000, and Athens in 2007.
The 2007 Athens edition remains etched in Greek basketball memory, as Panathinaikos lifted the European trophy at home. This historic victory marked the pinnacle of the clover club’s success on the continental stage, in an electric atmosphere that made all of Greece vibrate.
