Andre Roberson (6’7″, 33 years old) made his mark in the 2024-2025 Betclic ELITE season. Solid with Cholet then valuable for ASVEL, the former NBA player seemed to be Tony Parker’s priority in the transfer market. However, the Villeurbanne president announced in Le Progrès that he was now very pessimistic about a possible extension for the American power forward.
After joining ASVEL mid-season, Andre Roberson established himself in the Villeurbanne rotation following a convincing stint at Cholet, where he started the 2024-2025 season. In Betclic ELITE, the former Oklahoma City Thunder player averaged 10.1 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 35 games.
Despite wanting to build around him, Tony Parker was realistic in Le Progrès: « I would like to keep him, but I think we have very, very little chance given the salaries in EuroLeague and Dubai’s role in driving up prices. »
Roberson’s likely departure comes during a busy summer for ASVEL. Still in Le Progrès, Tony Parker confirmed the departures of Théo Maledon, who signed « a big contract in Madrid, » and Neal Sako, who activated his EuroLeague clause to join Valencia. Other key players like Paris Lee and Joffrey Lauvergne will also leave the club for economic reasons.
As the task of rebuilding a competitive roster with a limited salary cap looms large, ASVEL may have to bid farewell to another key player without having been able to maintain stability.
