Alyssa Thomas continues to make WNBA history. During the Phoenix Mercury’s victory over the Los Angeles Sparks (92-84), the forward recorded her seventh triple-double of the season, breaking the record she had set herself in 2023. An exceptional performance that brings her career total to 18 triple-doubles.

A historic performance despite illness

The Mercury star tallied 12 points, 16 rebounds and 15 assists, becoming the first player in WNBA history to record a game with more than 10 points, 15 rebounds and 15 assists. This remarkable performance follows another triple-double achieved last Friday against the Valkyries, where she recorded 13 points, 12 rebounds and 16 assists.

The Mercury coach, Nate Tibbetts, revealed after the game that Alyssa Thomas was sick and could have missed this historic match. « I told her before the game: ‘I know you’re not feeling well, do you want to play tonight?' », explains the Phoenix coach. « That’s what I usually do and she just wanted to win this game. That’s one of the things I love most about her. Every time there’s a loose ball, she doesn’t hesitate to dive to try to recover it. She would have been an incredible football player. »

A decisive impact for playoffs

Humble after her record performance, Thomas thanked her teammates: « I thank my teammates who made their open shots. I take what the game gives me. It can be baskets, rebounds, or assists. I try to do everything I can to bring victory to my team. »

Thanks to this historic game by Alyssa Thomas, the Mercury secures their fourth win in five games and re-enters the top 4 in the standings, which means home-court advantage in the playoffs. Phoenix will host the Sky this Thursday to continue their march toward the playoffs, with Thomas more determined than ever to lead her team to the top.
