« He’s improving tremendously »: Alexandre Sarr essential against Slovenia
Gabriel Pantel-Jouve
Alexandre Sarr (7’1″, 20 years old) won’t play in France’s third EuroBasket 2025 game this Sunday, August 31 against Israel. The Washington Wizards center, who impressed in France’s victory over Slovenia on Saturday, is being rested due to a calf muscle concern.

Without Sarr, the French frontcourt will be limited. Frédéric Fauthoux will only have one true center, Mouhammadou Jaiteh, supported by two power forwards, Guerschon Yabusele and Jaylen Hoard. Small forward Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot will likely be called upon to play power forward in certain lineups to make up for the lack of rotation.
On the other side, Israel brings solid arguments in the paint. Roman Sorkin, who scored 31 points in the first game, will be their main offensive threat at center, while Tomer Ginat, former Metropolitans 92 player, occupies the power forward position. In this context, France will need to find collective solutions to compensate for the absence of their young star center.
