-38: Partizan Belgrade Sinks Again, Crushed by Olympiacos!

Partizan Belgrade is going through a dark period in EuroLeague. This Wednesday, the Serbians received a real thrashing at home against Olympiacos, losing by 38 points (66-104). A seventh consecutive defeat in the competition, symbolizing a team in freefall.

A losing streak that keeps getting worse
This new blow adds to an already very concerning record for Partizan Belgrade. The club hasn’t won in EuroLeague since December 12th, when they secured a victory against Red Star Belgrade (79-76). Since then, defeats have piled up, always with significant margins.
None of the recent defeats have been conceded by less than 13 points, and the series even peaked at a 41-point difference against Zalgiris Kaunas on December 19th (109-68). Against Olympiacos, the trend did not reverse, quite the contrary.
A quickly one-sided game
After a relatively competitive first quarter, won by three points by Olympiacos, the game completely tilted. At halftime, the gap was already massive (+22, 52-30), before climbing to +36 at the end of the third quarter (79-43). The Greeks definitively sealed the deal in the final ten minutes to win 104-66.
Only Duane Washington Jr (28 points) and Bruno Fernando (11 points) tried to stay afloat on the Serbian side in a collective shipwreck.
Olympiacos in collective domination
Led by Sasha Vezenkov in great form (25 points), Olympiacos Piraeus delivered an accomplished performance on both ends of the court. Thomas Walkup, Nikola Milutinov, Tyler Dorsey, Donta Hall and Alec Peters all scored 12 points, illustrating the Piraeus team’s collective domination.
In this large victory, French internationals Evan Fournier (3 points, 2 rebounds and 4 assists in 16 minutes) and Frank Ntilikina (6 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists in 14 minutes) didn’t have to push hard, in a context largely controlled by their team.

Georgios Bartzokas, Olympiacos coach, reflects on this crushing victory:
« We were very serious for 40 minutes. Particularly, the second and third quarters were very good for us. We moved the ball well, with many assists. Every player who entered the game delivered at least one assist, and some even more. When we shared the ball, we had more scorers. For us, it was important to finish the game with respect for Partizan, not to stop playing in the third quarter. I think we were very good against this Partizan team going through psychological difficulties. They have good players and a good coach, and they need to find a way to play much better than what they showed today. »
Opposite dynamics in the standings
Thanks to this victory, Olympiacos returns to the top 6 of EuroLeague with a record of 13 wins and 8 losses. The Greeks are stringing together a second consecutive victory before hosting Maccabi Tel Aviv, currently 14th (8 wins, 13 losses), on January 20th.
Conversely, Partizan Belgrade still cannot escape its disastrous spiral. Between injuries and repeated defeats, the Serbian club occupies last place in EuroLeague with a record of 6 wins and 16 losses.
An opportunity for ASVEL and Efes
This situation could benefit ASVEL, which has a slight opportunity to widen the gap with the bottom team if they succeed in their next game against Hapoel Tel Aviv, currently at the top of EuroLeague. Same logic for Anadolu Efes, facing Baskonia, currently 16th.
