Sandro Mamukelashvili (6’11 », 26) has found a new home north of the border. The American-Georgian forward has signed a two-year contract worth $5.5 million with the Toronto Raptors, according to ESPN. This signing marks the end of his two-and-a-half-year stint with the San Antonio Spurs.

Selected 54th overall in the 2021 draft from Seton Hall University, Mamukelashvili has played 191 games over four NBA seasons. With the Spurs last season, he averaged 6.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1 assist per game in 126 total appearances.
An NBA record and popularity gained in San Antonio
Despite his backup role, « Mamu » made headlines with his exceptional performance against the New York Knicks last March. He scored 34 points on 13/14 shooting, including a perfect 7/7 from 3-point range in just 19 minutes, setting an NBA record for most points scored in under 20 minutes of play.
This historic performance placed him among only four players in NBA history to achieve at least 90% field goal percentage, 100% three-point percentage, and 100% free throw percentage in the same game. He also joined Matt Bonner and Steve Smith as the only Spurs players to go at least 7/7 from three-point range in a game.
An opportunity for more playing time in Toronto
Mamukelashvili’s departure from San Antonio is partly due to Luke Kornet’s arrival, who joins the frontcourt rotation around Victor Wembanyama. In Toronto, the Georgian international hopes to get more opportunities in a roster led by Darko Rajakovic.
His per-36-minute stats from last season demonstrate his potential: 20.4 points, 9.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.9 blocks, with 37.3% three-point shooting. This versatility and ability to stretch the floor perfectly match the dynamic offensive style advocated by the Raptors.
With this signing, Toronto nearly completes its roster with 13 players under guaranteed contracts, slightly approaching the luxury tax threshold set at $187.9 million. For Spurs fans, the departure of this player, appreciated for his energy and locker room presence, marks the end of a great Texas adventure.
