A new tragedy strikes Minneapolis, more than five years after the death of George Floyd. The Minnesota Timberwolves paid tribute to Renee Good, a 37-year-old mother shot and killed by an ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agent Wednesday morning, just 3 miles from Target Center.
Before tip-off of their game against the Cleveland Cavaliers Thursday night, the Minnesota franchise held a moment of silence in memory of this mother of three, who died in her car during a confrontation with immigration police agents.

Chris Finch expresses organization’s support
« As we all know, our community has once again been struck by unspeakable tragedy, » said Chris Finch, the Timberwolves’ coach, before the game. « We simply wanted to convey our condolences, as well as our thoughts, prayers and sincere support to the families, loved ones and all those deeply affected by what happened. »
The Minnesota coach revealed he spoke individually with each of his players after news of the tragedy broke. « All the people and resources within the franchise are always there for our players, but this isn’t about our players or how they react, » Finch explained. « It’s more about how our players can show support and understanding in the face of what’s happening. »
This tragedy comes amid intensified ICE activity in the Twin Cities region, as part of the Trump administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration. The Timberwolves’ gesture takes on particular significance as top U.S. government officials, from Donald Trump to JD Vance, have blamed the victim, despite videos that call into question the immigration agents’ version of events.
